Interested in Architecture? Captivated by culture? Barcelona is the place to be! City breaks are perfect for couples wanting a weekend away, or trip away with friends and family for some quality time spent sight-seeing, shopping and testing out tasty local delicacies. So why not incentivise some city break trips?
Barcelona boasts Cathedrals and Museums amongst an array of beautiful buildings designed by many famous architects. Amongst all of this you can still enjoy the cosmopolitan of the city from designer boutiques and high-street shops to bars and cafes and restaurants. Although it was hard to narrow it down, we have decided on our top things to do in Barcelona:
Sagrada Familia
This monumental Catholic Church or Basilica according to Pope Benedict, was drawn up by famous architect Francisco de Paula del Villar and Antoni Gaudi. Construction began in 1882, it is estimated to be finished by 2026, as the building is made up of only donations from members of the public. The building is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When visiting you can go inside the NAVE, Crypt, Museum, shop and the Passion and Nativity Towers. Entrance to the towers is accessible by life, but the descent is by a very narrow spiral staircase, but the panoramic views are incredible! The building itself is Gothic and looks as though it is made from melting candle wax. When it is eventually finished, it will be the tallest church building in the world.
Museum Picasso
Pablo Picasso spent many of his early years in Barcelona. Not only can you visit landmarks around Barcelona where he shaped his youth and where his family lived even if the building was destroyed, but you can see his artwork in Museu Picasso.
Camp Nou
Here in Barcelona you can visit the Camp Nou football stadium and live the emotion of entering the field of play from the tunnel where great players like Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez have walked. At the stadium you can view the 5 European Cups as well as learn about the history of the club. If the Guided tour isn't enough, you can now let yourself be thrilled with the ultimate virtual reality experience. On the virtual reality experience, you can put on the VR glasses and relive the most exciting goals and moments as if you were there!
Monjuïc Cable Car
You might not think that Cable Cras are anything special, but the view from this one is. It links to the top of Monjuïc mountain. It goes up on a 752-metre run above the ground, where at the top you'll find a castle. When you are on the cable-cart and when you arrive at the top you will be able to see buildings such as the Sagrada Familia or the Torre Agbar in the distance. Also, you will find a little bar where you can buy a beer or soft drink and enjoy the view.
Other places to visit:
- Go to the beach! There is just over 4 kilometres of beaches, so if you want a day off from exploring you can chill on one of the beaches.
- La Ramblas – This is a place most tourists identify with when talking about Barcelona. It's a boulevard cutting through the centre, which is lively and vibrant at the best of time, with street performers. Along La Ramblas you'll find many shops, bars, cafes and restaurants
- Casa Batlló & Casa Milà – Another one of Antoni Gaudí's creations.
